This medication treats only certain types of infections. It will not work for viral infections such as flu. Unnecessary use or misuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.
If you are taking your antibiotic to treat or prevent Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia formerly called Pneumocystis carinii or PCP it may not work as well. Before you have any medical tests, tell the medical doctor in charge that you or your child are taking this medicine. The results of some tests may be affected by this medicine. Pyrexia, and crystalluria may be noted. Blood dyscrasias and are potential late manifestations of overdosage. It is very important that your doctor check the progress of you or your child at regular visits to make sure that this medicine is working properly. Blood and urine tests may be needed to check for unwanted effects.
